History
I've been into the Art of Magic since 1981 when at the age of eight I got a magic set for Christmas, and I've never stopped practising since.
I read every book on magic Icould get my hands on throughout my childhood and teenage years, and by the time
I started studying Languages and Linguistics at Carleton University in Ottawa, always had a deck of cards in my pocket and showing card tricks at parties was my main outlet of expression.

I left Canada in 1998 to move to Tokyo, Japan, to teach English and to study karate at the Japan Karate Association World Headquarters School. I ended up performing magic every day at work because I started off almost every lesson with a magic trick. The end result was that I was performing six to eight times a day, five days a week, for two years in front of a constant rotation of strangers who could not understand much English. In this way I managed to fit a lifetime of practice into a highly concentrated span of time. It was also in Tokyo that I was invited to a magic club meeting for the first time in my life. The star of the group was a guy my age by thename of Shoot Ogawa. He was trying to learn English at the time, so I gave him some language coaching and he taught me about magic on a higher technical level then I'd seen up to that point in my life. We've remained good friends ever since.

In 2000, I moved from Japan to Mannheim, Germany. I entered my first magic competition in 2001, which was the Preliminary Eliminations to qualify for entry into the German National Championships. This was also my first magic convention and my first exposure to the European style of magic. My second competition was a year later in 2002, the German Nationals. I placed 4th and therefore did not qualify for participation at the 2003 FISM World Championships. Instead of giving up, I attacked the rest of Europe before coming back for a second shot at the German Nationals three years later in 2005. You see, Germany has the toughest competition system on the planet and only holds its national competition every three years. In the three
years from 2003 to 2005, I went on a rampage and competed in 16 major competitions, in five different languages, in various countries around the world. This is how I qualified for entry into my 19th competition, the 2006 FISM World

Championships in Stockholm, Sweden.
My competition history has been one of the most varied and extensive in the historyof magic. I am the current European Champion of Magic in the category Close-Up and I am well-known among magicians across Europe. Videos of my magic performances can be seen on YouTube under the tags "Hayashi Magic".
I have performed at the Magic Circle in London, the Wizard's Inn in Tokyo, the 4F Convention in upstate New York, the British IBM in Eastbourne, and the Magic Castle in Hollywood. I make my living as a lecturer for the English Department at the University of Mannheim, Germany. On the weekends I do corporate and private
magic shows, lectures, and gala show performances at magic conventions on a parttime professional basis.

News
2007 was a year of high-speed development. It was exhausting at times but definitely
exciting! After having ranked in the Top 5 in Parlor Stage Magic AND the Top 10 in Close-Up Magic at the 2006 FISM World Championships, I almost considered retiring from competition. Instead, I decided to make another vicious attack on the world of magic. In June 2007 I entered both the IBM (the International Brotherhood of Magicians) American Gold Cups Championships held in Reno, Nevada and the SAM (the
Society of American Magicians) American National Championships held in Dallas,Texas. I entered with three different competition acts and I am proud to say that I won awards at both competitions.

In July 2007 I did a lecture tour in England which was my first tour with the newly created Hayashi Magic DVD series. The series has four volumes so far and we are planning to produce volume five in early 2008.
In October 2007 I entered the German National Championships Preliminary Eliminations with four different competiton acts and won awards in all four categories: Close-Up Magic, Mental Magic, Card Magic, and Comedy! I will be competing in all four categories at the German National Championships Finals in July 2008.
In November 2007 I worked a six-week engagement as the MC of a full two and a half hour show at the “Traumzeit Theater” variety theatre in Backnang, Germany.This is the most demanding long-term stage work I have done so far and it was excellent training for what was coming in the new year…
In December 2007 I did the rehearsals and preparation work for my appearance in THE NEXT URI GELLER, GERMANY in January.
On January 8 I appeared as one of the candidates in the German show and was the first to be voted out. I was then accepted into the Dutch version of the show for Holland and appeared again two weeks later, performing in the Dutch language. performances in February and March as a candidate on the Dutch NEXT URI
GELLER were very successful and I have made it into the final round as one of the
three finalists.

In 2009 are Hayashi "The Mask" in De Nieuwe Uri Geller
